Geographical position

De Steppe in Ulicoten is situated at the Dutch-Belgian border, in the centre between the cities of Breda-Tilburg-Turnhout (Belgium). Ulicoten belongs to the Dutch municipality of Baarle-Nassau, which is unique because of its enclaves. Together with the Belgian municipality of Baarle-Hertog, this village forms the twin village of "Baarle". With just as many Belgians as Dutch in the village centre, this is a great example of a European community.

    Route description
    De Steppe is situated in between the villages of Baarle-Nassau and Ulicoten:
  • From Chaam you follow the direction of Ulicoten, watch the road signs in Chaam.
  • From Ulicoten you follow the signs to Baarle-Nassau or the ANWB signs with the camping logo.
  • From Baarle-Nassau you follow the signs to Ulicoten, or you follow the ANWB signs with the camping logo. De Steppe is half way from Baarle-Nassau to Ulicoten.

  • From Dordrecht, follow the A16 highway to Breda-Tilburg. At intersection "Galder", follow the A58 highway to Tilburg. On the A58 take exit 14 to Chaam.

  • From Gorinchem, follow the A27 highway to Tilburg; at intersection"St. Annabosch" follow the A58 highway to Tilburg. On the A58 take exit 12 to Gilze-Alphen-Baarle-Nassau.

  • From Eindhoven or Roosendaal, follow the A58 highway. On the A58 from Eindhoven/Tilburg take exit 12 to Gilze-Alphen-Baarle-Nassau. On the A58 from Roosendaal/Breda take exit 14 to Chaam.

  • From Antwerpen or Hasselt you best drive past the Turnhout ring-road, then follow Baarle-Hertog/Baarle-Nassau.

By bicycle there are nice planned routes. You best use a detailled map (for sale at de Steppe), or contact the local tourist office (telephone +31-13-5079921).
You can use public transportation (train or bus) to Breda or Tilburg. Then take bus 132 (line between Breda and Tilburg), up to de Steppe's doorstep. This bus always goes through Baarle-Nassau, but not every time through Ulicoten. Are you stranded in Baarle Nassau than you can take a taxi from Baarle-Nassau (taxicompany Baarle: (+31) 013-5077507) or continue on foot to Ulicoten (about a half hour walk).
